I've always felt a very deep need to express myself through creating. When I was a small child I would hide beneath the diningroom table, scribbling and pasting things on the nearest wall, where no one could see. Around that same time, I fingerpainted our bathroom with a bottle of my mother's foundation. I still occasionally paint walls with my fingers, with much less yelling involved now. The medium I work with fluctuates depending on what it is I'm trying to express and what I feel would best convey that message. I will sometimes work on multiple pieces in a variety of mediums over the course of one day. There's often an immediacy involved; I'm anxious to complete the thought that's blossomed in my head as soon as possible. I do this because it's what I live and breathe. I do it in hopes that the output will abate the flow of sensory input. I tell stories with art because my command and control of my brush is consistently better than my command and control of the English language. |
